Rules

General Rules and Guidelines

Above all, be a generally respectful and good person. Just because something is not in the rules does not mean you are allowed to do it, and if a staff member asks you to stop doing something please stop. Players are expected to use common sense to know what they should or should not do in areas where the rules may be ambiguous.

• Do not impersonate staff or other players. This includes (but is not limited to) nicknames and player skins.

• Attempts to evade punishments (bans/mutes) will be punished further. This includes via signs, auctions, or items.

• Do not lie or be deceitful. (this includes attempting to scam others). Example - you are not allowed to tell a player to tp to you for help and then attack them.

• If you disagree with a decision or punishment, you may appeal on the /website, contact a higher staff member privately or open a ticket on discord. You may not appeal your punishment in discord general chat. Players who do this will be muted. Please use the appropriate methods to argue your case.

• Do not disrespect staff.

Chat Rules

These rules apply across all chats, unless specified.

• English only in global chat. Occasional words or phrases from other languages are fine, but please keep conversations primarily to English.

• Do not post inappropriate links in any chat

• Do not share inappropriate content in any chat.

• No inappropriate nicknames, usernames, or named items

• Do not share personal/private information regarding other players.

• Bullying or discrimination will not be tolerated against any member of the server.

• Threats against the server will not be tolerated.

• No spamming

• No advertising other Minecraft servers

• No advertising other Discord servers (unless directly related to Lonks, e.g. town and nation discord servers)

• No excessive use of caps.

Swearing

As a general rule, swearing and insults are allowed, provided:

• the word is not banned by the chat filter (attempting to bypass the chat filter on said words will be considered rule-breaking)

• the word or insult is not discriminatory (eg homo/transphobic, xenophobic, racist, etc.)

• the swearing is not excessive

Players are expected to use their own discretion when directing swear words/insults at other players and ensure that they stop directing swear words/insults at another player if said player asks/tells them to stop. If this does not happen, either staff will intervene, or the player affected should make a player report with evidence.

These rules apply to general chat, public town and nation chats, and local chat in public areas. However, if a staff member asks you to stop discussing a topic in any chat, please stop.

Banned Topics

Politics

• political current events (e.g. wars, elections, debates, international crises, political parties, politicians)

• debates that are considered to be political or divisive (e.g. abortion, sexuality/gender issues*, voter rights, discrimination, virtually anything repressive happening in dictatorships)
  *Players are free to be open about their sexuality/gender/pronouns

Religion

• Debates or issues that are considered to be political or divisive from a religious standpoint

• Extremist religious groups or cults (e.g.: Islamic/Christian fundamentalist groups, think ISIS, the Westboro Baptist Church, Scientology)

NSFW Topics

• Anything that would be considered 18+/X-rated/’not safe for work’

• Sexual activities of any kind

• Sexual preferences (kinks/fetishes/positions)

• Pornography

• Genitalia

• Crimes that are sexual in nature (e.g: rape/sexual assault/sexual abuse/paedophilia)

Controversial Topics

• Any form of genocide or atrocity, historical or current (inc. but not limited to the Holocaust, Holodomor, Armenian Genocide) and reference to people/organisations who perpetrated atrocities or genocides

• History insofar as it is related to modern issues or would be considered controversial (e.g.: colonialism, imperialism, slavery and the slave trade, atrocities (see previous point), persecutions, anything relating to the first three sections)

• Any mentioning of illegal drugs (or references to growing, dealing or taking them), including drugs that are legal in some countries but not others like marijuana

• Abuse of any kind (domestic, emotional, sexual, physical)

Please be aware that this list of topics is not exhaustive, and what is considered acceptable may vary depending on the discretion of the staff member. If a staff member instructs you to stop discussing a topic, please listen to them- if you feel a staff member has unfairly banned a certain topic, please either make a staff report or ask a higher member of staff.

Hoppers, Spawners and Mob Grinders

• All mob grinders (spawner and naturally spawning) must be no larger than 3 x 3 chunks. When building your farms press f3+g to see chunk boundaries. Count out one chunk in each direction from the center to establish a 3 x 3 area

• Spawner limits still apply. 24 spawners per 5 chunks.

• Hopper limit of 100 per 5 chucks.

You can measure 5 chunks by pressing F3 and G or </towny map big>. Move one chunk out the chunk you are measuring from. Count 5 in the direction you are measuring in.

Towny Rules

For Residents

• Do not alter/grief areas within Towns, unless given permission to do so.

• Follow the rules set in place by town mayors.

For Mayors

• You may not scam your residents.

• You may not drastically raise taxes or deliberately disband your town without giving a minimum of 7 days notice to your residents.

• If a resident is inactive for over 7 days, the Mayor has the right to remove them from the town.

• Mayors may remove players’ builds if

1. The player has left the town
2. The player has not been online for over 7 days.

The Mayor must give a 3 day notice before hand and allow the player to remove it if they want. (You may give notice on day 4 of inactivity and remove on day seven. We suggest you screenshot the notice given to prevent later disputes)

• Mayors are permitted to set town rules. If residents do not follow these, Mayors are allowed to enforce them by evicting or banning them from the town.

• Mayors of the same nation may claim their towns right next to each other if they wish. Both mayors MUST be in agreement. It is strongly encouraged that screenshots are taken of the agreement to prevent arguments later on. Towns that are not in the same nations will not be able to claim within 15 chunks of neighbouring towns

• Do not claim around a players town with the intention to limit their expansion. Even if it is 15 chunks away.

• Do not attempt to bypass this by claiming areas 15 chunks apart unless agreed on by both mayors. Screenshots of agreement required in case of dispute.

• Do not claim or deface the main island in the End. The main isle is for everyone to use. your claims will be removed without notice and builds will be removed regularly.

No Hacking, Exploiting, Cheating

• AFK pools/Machines are not allowed.

• Do not AFK/Auto farm. This includes things with no player interaction.

Example - 1. You are using an AFK pool to avoid being kicked/ load a farm. This is not allowed.
Example - 2. You use a super smelter that needs a lever to turn on and off. This is allowed.

• Do not X-Ray or use other un-approved mods. If you’re unsure of a mod, consult staff for review before use.

• Do not use macro/auto-clickers (type of hack).

• Do not exploit glitches (If you find one, report it to staff immediately).

• Do not scam in trades, auctions, and/or other transactions. This includes auctioning renamed/misrepresented or worthless/common items for extremely high amounts. (It is the players responsibility to know what they are bidding on. However, if a player is clearly attempting to trick buyers into bidding on or buying a worthless item by misrepresenting it would be considered scamming.) Example - you rename a wooden sword after a crate item and auction it in hopes that players will pay more. This is scamming and not allowed.

• Do not bid extremely high bids on auctions in the last few seconds to try and make players over pay. For example, if the current price for an item is $500, do not bid $100,000 with 2 seconds left, hoping that another player will type /bid and pay over $100,000 for the item.

• You may only use 3 accounts per person (Your main account plus two ALT accounts). If several people in one household are joining please let staff know.

• Do not build anything that could purposefully cause lag or have a negative effect on the servers performance. If you are unsure, please ask a staff member.

Grief vs Raiding vs Defacing

Griefing in towns / claimed chunks

• Do not break, or otherwise alter, another players’ build without their permission.

• Stealing is not allowed. Do not take anything that does not belong to you.

• Do not alter another players build without their explicit permission. This applies even if you have the Towny permission to do so.

• Do not kill mobs owned by another player.

• Do not trample crops or take from farms without permission. If you do have permission to use a players farm you must replant.

Example - You join a town and are able to (because of the towns set permissions) able to open chests and break blocks. This is stealing / griefing and is NOT allowed

Raiding in the wild

• Raiding/Stealing is allowed in all Wilderness chunks, regardless of how close to a town it is.

• Mass Griefing wilderness is not allowed. Example: You will not get in trouble for breaking a couple of blocks in an unclaimed wilderness building, but you are not allowed to throw lava or tnt everywhere to grief it.

The only way to keep your things 100% safe is to claim them.

Example - A player finds a house in the wild. The player takes the items from the chests. This is raiding and is allowed.

Defacing

• Do not deliberately deface the environment in the towny world

• Building walls, digging trenches, blowing up TNT, placing lava/water or any other form of blocking in towns is not allowed.

• Use /warp farmworld for resource gathering

Example - A player steals items from a chest and destroys the building (in the wilderness one chunk away from a town). This defacing and is not allowed

More examples of what would be allowed and not allowed.

Example 1. A player builds a giant sign pointed at the town reading 'GO AWAY'. This is harassment and not allowed.

Example 2. A player digs holes around a town to try and cause problems. This is harassment and not allowed.

PVP Rules and Guidelines

Wilderness & Towny:

• PVP is allowed on this server. Be careful who you teleport to and who you allow to teleport to you.

• If you do not wish to engage in pvp you have the option to teleport away.

• PVP is allowed in the wilderness on all worlds, but is disabled in towns by default.

• Flight is not allowed in PVP, but can be used to escape unwanted attacks.

• Use </duel> if you want to PVP in a controlled environment

• Be mindful of our other server rules, which may link into the pvp rules. For Example; " Do not lie or be deceitful. (this includes attempting to scam others). Example - you are not allowed to tell a player to tp to you for help and then attack them. "

Trapping

• You are not allowed to make Nether portal traps / traps that disable the players ability to open the ingame chat.

• Do not use any means (i.e fishing rods, water, item ability etc.) to move a player out of towny Claimed land or into harms way.

No real world trading

• You may not sell/buy anything on Lonks for real life money.

• You are allowed to buy things from the store using real money, and then sell your purchased things to other players for ingame money.

NOT ALLOWED: Selling $1,000,000 in game money to a player for real cash.

IS ALLOWED: Gifting a player the VIP rank in exchange for $1,000,000 in-game money.

Approved mods include:

• Fair Play versions of Minimaps

• Optifine

• Shaders

• Inventory & Mouse tweaks mod

The Probation System

Players who continuously, intentionally break the rules may be placed on a probation period either temporarily or permanently. What this means is that any further breaking of the rules by the player will be dealt with more harshly, up to and including permanent bans from the server. Staff will inform the player when they are on/off a probationary period.
